MPs visit Llanymynech Canal Wharf

A popular cross border group that runs canal boat trips between England and Wales at Llanymynech has celebrated becoming part of a registered charity.

Volunteers run boat trips at weekends every summer aboard the George Watson Buck narrowboat starting at Llanymynech Canal Wharf.

Could you care for your local canal?

Two community based voluntary organisations that work on the Montgomery Canal in the border area between Welshpool and Oswestry are calling on local people to join them.

You will know that much voluntary work goes into restoring the old sections of the Montgomery Canal but volunteers are equally responsible for much ongoing care and maintenance of the canal.

Schoolhouse Bridge officially opens

Following a successful £1.1 million project supported by people across the country, its reinstatement was marked on 28th June by Anna Turner JP, Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire.

A plaque was unveiled by the Lord-Lieutenant to celebrate the culmination of years of planning and fund-raising by local canal charities working together as Restore the Montgomery Canal!

Popular Montgomery Canal trips to restart

The popular trip boat George Watson Buck based on the Montgomery Canal in Llanymynech is due to restart 30 minute trips between England and Wales on 5th May 2024 following a successful survey of the boat.

Based at the Llanymynech Wharf Visitor Centre in the Limeworks Heritage Area in Llanymynech, the boat trips are ideal for visitors to the area to get a sense of the heritage and wildlife of the Montgomery Canal.

Help keep the towpath clear

We often see comments about the vegetation on the Montgomery Canal towpath and how it can impede enjoyment of the canal. Could you volunteer to help keep them clear?
