Could you be a canal charity trustee?

The Shropshire Union Canal Society is looking for up to three new trustees.

For over 50 years the Shropshire Union Canal Society (SUCS) has worked to maintain, improve and restore the Shropshire Union network. It is currently restoring the Montgomery Canal’s dry section south of Oswestry near Crickheath. It is looking for people interested in becoming trustees of its governing body as it prepares for the next phase towards Pant.

The Society is currently restoring the canal channel between Lloyd’s Mill and Crickheath basin. This restoration will connect a further 1.2 miles of navigable section to the national network. It is expected to complete by the end of 2022 when the canal is handed over to the Canal and River Trust for a water test. Work will then continue south towards Pant.

Whether you have experience of running organisations, an enthusiasm for publicity and events, an interest in civil engineering or are young talent looking to gain experience in the charity sector, the Society is keen to receive applications from all backgrounds. Training and mentoring will be provided if required.

If you are interested in finding out more please go to the Society’s website where there are details of how to apply or, if you would like an informal chat first, then simply email your contact details to secretarysucs@gmail.com so that they can be in touch. We look forward to hearing from you.
